My 8 year old son Henry took me for some Maine mini golf on father's day last week at Martels Mini Golf in Saco, ME. All I can say is WOW. No bugs, great course and it was half the cost of every other mini golf course in the area.

Afterwards, be sure to mosey up to the Martels Ice Cream. They have more flavors than you can imagine and all homemade. My favorite? Banana nut bread.

This is a relatively new course set in an area that already has a couple of courses in its vicinity (Pirate’s Cove in Old Orchard Beach and Schooners in Saco). Overall, the course is a welcome addition to the area. It is set in the back lot of the Martel’s ice cream shop and is spread over a significant chunk of land. Because of the room it has, there is plenty of space between the holes and it incorporates some long holes.

The course has a few challenging holes including one hole that has a “tunnel” bored through one of the boulders. The course was clean and the landscaping was nice.

Given its location not far off of I-95 in Southern Maine, this course makes for a good stop, especially to break up a trip up North. It would also be worth playing if you’re staying in the Saco/Portland area.
